Friends of Aden Country Park
The Friends of Aden (FOA) was set up in 2012 to work in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council toward the development and promotion of Aden Country Park.
Mission Statement -
We are dedicated to conserving and enhancing Aden Country Park for the benefit of people and wildlife.
a) To safeguard the future of Aden Country Park as a public amenity.
b) To encourage the local community to take part in the protection, development and enjoyment of Aden Country Park.
c) To develop activities/facilities that will enhance the park and increase people’s enjoyment of the park.
d) To establish Aden Country Park as a venue for cultural activity.
Objectives 2016 - (How will we meet our goals/aims)
a) Participate in Aden Working Group ensuring community representation at decision making level and ensuring FOA are appropriately informed. Input to development of part 1 Parks for People application for submission late Feb.
b) Continuation of shop provision. Ensure Willowbank service users continue to have meaningful experience, Willowbank to introduce certificated attainment system.
c) Promote membership and participation. Deliver 4 new volunteer opportunities (to encourage new volunteers). Establish monthly film nights for members. Submit information for inclusion to Aden website.
d) Work with the Development Officer (BDP) and other partners to establish 3 new events and enhance existing activities. FOA will work toward taking lead role in WAA by 2018.
e) Work in partnership with the Ranger Service and deliver activity that will improve the natural environment and increase bio diversity. Establish bird feeding station and wild flower area. Provide alternative to feeding ducks with bread.
f) Establish a Public Art Strategy to enable delivery of art initiatives. Temporary interventions to be delivered summer 2016. Explore funding and partnership opportunities for further work.
g) Establish a music group dedicated to promoting music in the park, work in partnership with YMI. Deliver 2 activities this year.

If you fancy making new friends, we’re always on the lookout for people to become part of the team.
As stated, the Friends work alongside the various Aberdeenshire Council services to preserve, protect and enhance the facilities and environment of Aden Country Park, creating a place that is safe for everyone to enjoy.
Friends can work as volunteers on site, or equally from home in other ways. There are a wide range of activities and projects that Friends could be involved with. To give you a few ideas of types of work some suggestions are listed below.
- • Cleaning and painting buildings, gates, fences.
- • Improving footpaths, cycle routes and bridges.
- • Tree planting, gardening, clearing ditches, ponds
- • Enhancing biodiversity (creation of wildflower meadows, habitats, bat boxes etc)
- • Helping to organise community events, activities, and performances
- • Assisting with the marketing & promotion of events i.e. distributing flyers and posters, writing press releases etc
- • Helping with manning of events, collecting ticket sales, directing visitors etc
- • Fundraising
- • Organising guided walks and talks
- • Carrying out customer surveys
- • Developing education packs and building links with local schools.
- • Or alternatively help with the running of the Aden Country Park Shop
