Second Seedy Sunday event comes to Aden

It’s not too early to start thinking about spring and the bounty it brings with it.

Gardening enthusiasts can start by visiting Aberdeenshire's biggest seed swap, Seedy Sunday which takes place at Aden Country Park on Sunday 19th March from 11.am to 4p.m.

The heart of the Seedy Sunday event is the swapping of seeds and seed potatoes. Whether you are a beginner or master gardener, novice or expert seed saver or just curious about gardening and food, there is something for everyone in the poly tunnels at Aden Country Park.

This is the second year for the Aden Seedy Sunday event, which is again being organized by Buchan Development Partnership, Friends of Aden and Aberdeenshire Council.  Shell UK has also supported the project through their Shell Small Grants scheme.

The event will take a “seed to plate” theme which will provide an opportunity for visitors, families, gardeners, food lovers, allotment groups, and people with a keen interest in food and horticulture, to come together to celebrate locally produced food, drink, seeds and plants.

Guest speakers for this year include Erling Watt from Longside Apiaries and Jack Grant Landscape Officer from Aberdeenshire Council. Jack will be offering advice, leading workshops and offering tours of the Aberdeenshire Council poly tunnels. This is a one off opportunity to see behind the scenes and the scale of the operation at Aden Country Park. There will also be cookery demonstrations throughout the day by Kenny Smart from Your Secret Ingredient, who will use produce from the exhibitors at the event to create some fabulous dishes.

A very popular attraction is One Seed Forward who have purchased  local and heritage seed potatoes and will give them to individuals, schools, community and allotment groups. In return they ask you give two potatoes back from your crop for each one donated. So year on year they will have more crops to give away.

Bring seeds, plants or bought surplus seed, for the seed exchange. If you are a novice  our master garden panel will be on hand to give advice on the practicalities of growing from seed and your other gardening queries. The event also features 50 stalls from community groups,  food and gardening related businesses and charities, children’s activities and cookery demonstrations.

Free seed packets for your saved seed are available can be picked up from the Aden Craft & Gift Shop, Buchan Tools, Buchan Development Partnership, Aden Allotment Association or they can be posted out directly by contacting Buchan Development Partnership.

The event also offer children’s activities and entertainment from Ugie Folk Club.
