Mark Beaumont supports Aden Bike Challenge
Buchan’s first bike challenge has received a welcome boost as world record holder and round the world cyclist, Mark Beaumont, gave his support for the family friendly Aden Bike Challenge.
Speaking in advance of the event, Mark said ‘Opportunities such as this are a brilliant way to capture the challenge spirit and encourage children to be the adventurers of the future. This family cycle could even be the first step in sowing the seed for a future round-the-world cyclist!’
Speaking ahead of his appearance in Aberdeen on 11th March where he will be talking about his recent Atlantic Odyssey expedition, Mark continued, ‘I think it’s important that we learn to look for the adventurer in ourselves and cycling is a great and affordable way to do that. There is a great sense of community amongst cyclists and the activity is beneficial in so many ways. When I completed my first 10 mile cycle as a youngster, I didn’t realise that a few years later I would be undertaking an 18,000 mile round the world challenge and cycling from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego!’
The Aden Bike Challenge event will take place on Sunday 18th March and will take in some of the most beautiful sights in the local Buchan area.
The cycling event is a scenic ten mile trail which will start from the Peterhead Community Centre, go along the Formartine and Buchan Way (a former railway line converted into a purpose built off-road trail), and will end in Aden Country Park in Mintlaw.
A predominantly traffic-free cycle route, the event is suitable for everyone regardless of biking experience or fitness; it’s definitely not a race! Individuals, friends, families and groups are all very welcome to come along for a wonderful biking day out in bonny Buchan.
On arrival to Aden each participant will receive a warm welcome, event memento, certificate, and goody bag. In addition there will be a range of activities, facilities, exhibition stalls, stands on offer, including a Bike Road Show’, Mother's Day Country Fair, Circus Skills by Theatre Modo, access to the award winning Aberdeenshire Farming Museum and of course a chance for a seat at the Aden Cafe. So whether you plan to participate in the event or simply fancy an enjoyable afternoon, Aden Country Park will offer a great family day out.
