Heritage Fair Celebrates Rural Life

Rural Life Heritage FairAden Country Park in Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire, is to play host to an exciting range of events and activities at the forthcoming Rural Life Heritage Fair and Vintage Tractor Working Day. The events are to take place on Sunday 29th September, from 10am to 4pm and look to celebrate the local culture and farming traditions unique to Aberdeenshire.

The Vintage Tractor activities will be held beside Hareshowe Farm, in Aden Country Park, and will offer a rare chance to see a splendid variety of vintage tractors ranging from the 1930s to the 1960s including: Massey Ferguson, John Deer, International, Ford, David Brown, Fordson, Ferguson, Leyland, Nuffield, McCormack, Gunsmith, Field Marshall, Ursus, Lister, Case, Zetor and many more.

The tractors will both display and demonstrate how ploughing, harrowing, cultivating, ridging, seeding, rolling, scarifying and shimming were carried out. Weather permitting, we also hope to have the opportunity to demonstrate one of the major tasks of the Buchan farmer’s year, threshing.

Rural Life Heritage Fair aspects will be held in both the courtyard area and within the award winning Aberdeenshire Farming Museum. Activities will include a selection of traditional music and performance, craft demonstrations, family history, rural life photographic exhibition, archive film footage, farmers market, rare breed animals, access to the Aberdeenshire Farming Museum and Hareshowe Farm, along with a range of heritage related displays, stalls, and activities that illustrate what life was like for country people in the past and how it has shaped Aberdeenshire’s countryside today.

Heritage-Fair1Other activities happening in the park include a bouncy castle; the very popular climbing wall and body zorbing; make your own scarecrow workshop; and a variety of farmer’s market stalls; and of course the excellent Symposium café and Aden Craft & Gift Shop.

Jack Grant, Landscape Officer said:
“Whatever your interest, the Vintage Tractor Working Day and Rural Life Heritage Fair events has something for everyone. So why not make a family day out in Aden Country Park this weekend, for a rare chance to experience the sights and sounds of Buchan’s farming heritage”.

Neil Shirran, Aden Development Worker added:
“Aberdeenshire has a rich farming tradition so it’s great to be able to work in partnership with the annual Vintage Tractor Day organisers to help celebrate the local farming heritage through demonstrations, music, photography, language, literature, craft, and film”.
