Crowds go Wild About Aden at annual event
Families from Buchan and the surrounding areas went “Wild About Aden” at the recent annual event held in Aden Country Park in Mintlaw. The hugely successful family friendly event took place over two days, Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July 2014, and attracted thousands of visitors to the much loved country park.
Now in its fourth year, Wild About Aden is now a firm favourite in the Aden Country Park event calendar attracting over 8,000 people. This year’s event featured a range of family friendly activities including: outdoor nature sessions; animal handling workshops; a selection of rare breed animals; circus skill workshops; face painting; environmental art; mini beast hunt; potted sports; storytelling; treasure hunt; horticulture activities; food science festival; wildlife crime caravan; RSPB; North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership; Owl & the Pussycat Centre; campfire cooking; Woodland Zumba and the ever popular body zorbing and climbing wall sessions.
Neil Shirran, Aden Development Worker, said:
“I think this year’s Wild About Aden event was the best yet. We had a wide range of enjoyable, fun, family friendly activities on offer, which not only helps to showcase Aden Country Park, but also acts as an economic driver for the area, whilst offering families and visitors alike with a variety of education, health, and exercise opportunities”.
“Sometimes I think we forget what fantastic parks and green spaces we have in Aberdeenshire, none more so than in Aden Country Park. Events such as the Wild About Aden help to highlight what an important role the park plays in the community, as well as how important partnership working between Aberdeenshire Council services and external partners is, enabling events such as Wild About Aden to happen”.
Jane Verity, Community Learning Worker, said:
“The Wild About Aden event promotes family learning by using a range of ‘hands on’ and ‘experiential’ learning opportunities which also raise awareness of the local environment and farming heritage. The event supports people to become confident, skilled and active members of their community by providing supported volunteering opportunities and enable community groups to become involved”.
“The event also increases knowledge and confidence for families to develop skills which are transferable and can be used with their families at other times, providing sustainability and promoting a strong family learning environment”.
Wild About Aden is a partnership project between Buchan Development Partnership and the Aberdeenshire Council Central Buchan Community Learning & Development, the Ranger, Museum and Library Services, Active Aberdeenshire, Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Doonies Farm, Friends of Aden, amongst others, and is designed to provide two days of family fun within the beautiful setting of Aden Country Park.
