Aden Orienteering Courses

Aden Country Park has Permanent Orienteering Courses available to visitors, providing a chance to practise navigation, develop fitness, or have fun with the kids.

The orienteering courses are composed of a start point, a series of control points, and a finish point. The basic idea is to navigate your way around the courses using a map and compass (optional) visiting all control points in the shortest possible time.

It's entirely up to you how you get from point to point and whether you run, walk or stumble around with the kids and dog, having a picnic en route.

The Aden Permanent Orienteering Courses have a variety of control points (wooden posts painted with markings) and a map showing all of these, plus suggestions on how to string them together to make an easy, medium, or hard course.

Suggestions on what to bring include trainers or lightweight boots, clothing you don’t mind getting a bit mucky; a clear plastic bag to put your map in (if it’s raining); a compass (optional) for orientating the map; and most importantly a drink/snack for afterwards.

If you like treasure hunts, and the outdoors, then we suggest you give it a go.

New format maps are available from the Aden Country Park Café/Restaurant for £1, or can be obtained from Aberdeenshire Council Landscape Services (Tel: 01261 813386 / 01261 813386). Copies are also available by post at a cost of £1 (cheques made payable to ‘Grampian Orienteers’) and can be obtained from Iain McLeod, 25 Earlspark Drive, Bieldside, Aberdeen, AB15 9AH.
